She was awarded 2016
Illinois Coach of the Year for Boys’ Swimming and Diving by the National
Federation of High School Coaches’ Association.
She was the Illinois Swimming Coach of the Year in 2013. She’s on the board of directors for the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. One Chicagoland publication called her a “legend.”
To us at Exmoor, she’s just positive, energetic, friendly,
motivating, personable, caring Cindy Dell, Exmoor’s Aquatics Director since 2016.
Swimming is Cindy’s lifelong passion. She started
swimming competitively at age 9. In 8th
grade, she ramped up her training to five and
a half hours a day. Cindy swam for the University of Iowa as a freshman (“I bleed
black and gold.”), graduating with a degree in
Physical Education with an emphasis in Corporate Fitness.
Since 1990, Cindy has coached literally thousands of swimmers
of all ages and abilities, including U.S. Olympians, at the Lake Forest Swim Club,
the Lake Forest Club and Lake Forest High School, where Cindy currently teaches special education by day and coaches junior varsity girls' swimming, varsity boys' swimming and water polo by
night.
Cindy describes her role as Exmoor Aquatics Director as
“life-changing.” Not only is Exmoor just
a “beautiful and gorgeous” place to spend the summer, but in addition to
coaching and teaching kids of all ages, she gets to interact with and develop
programming for Members of all ages, too, from moms and tots to master swimmers.
What to expect for the Exmoor swim team? Team spirit is essential, not stress of winning. “I’ve told thousands of parents over the years: just be your
child’s cheerleader. Let the coaches
coach, and you just be there to cheer.”
